Norway might be most famous in the metal world as the home of all things black, satanic and illegal. Yet nestling in its capital of Oslo is an altogether different prospect. Zeenon (the name comes from Greek mythology) consists of a core of three female members plus the requisite male drummer. Eschewing Norway's most famous metal heritage has not been easy and to even gain prominence in an industry fraught with bias and scepticism, Zeenon has achieved much already.

Founding member Linn Pedersen created a multi-influenced metal band with friend Nina Hansen back in 1995. Beginning by playing covers songs they soon developed a taste for making their own sound and image. They're still running an interesting way adding more and more brutality to their songs and shows. It has never been a goal being predictable and what's yet to come nobody knows.

Combining strong influences such as Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Slayer, Meshuggah and Origin, the band are high up in the food chains soon eating from the same plate as the bands that have been their role models for years. Latest recording is a mix of brutal, technical and head banging music that has been labeled as death metal in the media.

With Pedersens unique vocals, blending a haunting 'singing' with a guttural from down bellow, Elins eminent and technical bass-lines, Lindas deathcrushing guitars and Mads's massacre of crust-blasting sound its scheduled for a vast showing worldwide. In August 2004 the band signed with UK label RETRIBUTE RECORDS to promote their distinctive brand of brutal music globally. Official release date of the full-length CD "Blood Vessel Criteria" is mid January 2006.

The band has played many shows, including the Inferno Festival in 2001 and 2005, and joined several compilation albums. Zeenon was also one of the chosen artists to represent the metal genre by attending the great International Music Market, MIDEM, by Music Export Norways promotion CD in 2004. This year Zeenon supported one of their long time favourite bands, the US death metallers Vital Remains on their tour in Norway. The imagery is as powerful as ever, as recent festival appearances testify and also their music video "Alienated" showed. Couple of the bands catchiest tunes to date it is available for download, along with news about their latest happenings, at their website www.zeenon.com.

Nonetheless, 2005 is proving to be the bands busiest year so far. The new year started with an appearance at Norways By:Larm, a festival for the Norwegian brand of music, and an appearance at the gaming worlds answer to the Oscars: Gullstikka . Following this the four piece are going to play several gigs and attend festivals. Easter 2005 they attended the Inferno Festival, along with Morbid Angel, Dissection, Arcturus and Candlemass.Norway's newest and far more likeable exports must be heard to be appreciated and soon people the world over will rejoice in the power of Zeenon, a group who has emerged from personal and professional tests to return stronger than ever and capable of producing their best work. Long live Zeenon, with the metal community, against the world.
